Steadfast, a Profile 22 fabricator and installer, carried out extensive works replacing curtain walling on a single storey school hall at Ivanhoe School, Doncaster.
The project brief included the specific requirement to improve the energy efficiency performance of the building.
- Although a ‘single storey’ building the hall and curtain wall were more than 40ft high, raising the challenge of working at height.
- The project had a strict 10-day delivery deadline.
- Installation teams had to employ strict health and safety controls as the project was delivered in part, during term time.
Solutions:
- Steadfast resolved the health and safety challenge by carrying out internal work during half-term. This meant that although part of the work was scheduled for delivery during the school week, the hall could still be used as a dining room.
- Additional insulation was also used in the cavities around the curtain wall to deliver even better thermal performance.
Benefits:
- Using the Profile 22 SK200 system Steadfast was able to install advanced glazing and high performance products making classrooms draught proof and warmer. This also has the benefit of lowering the school’s heating costs.
- New double glazed PVC-U windows also delivered far greater sound and noise installation.
- Modern replacement curtain walling offers a low maintenance solution with excellent whole life costings.
- Featuring double glazed glass, high impact advanced frames and new locking mechanisms, security was also improved.
Comment – Dave Lee, Doncaster Metropolitan Council:
“Profile 22’s curtain walling system not only delivers superb energy performance but was ideally suited to the project.
“It was the first time we had used the system and with support from the company’s technical team we were able to deliver a substantial project on time and in just 10 days from start to finish.
“Flexibility in the system meant that we were able to adopt an equally flexible approach fully accommodating and meeting all of the school’s key criteria to minimise disruption.”
