Key Security Tips
It is possible to reduce your risk substantially. Figures suggest that by fitting simple security measures such as window locks and deadlocks you reduce your chances of being burgled tenfold.
- Always fit highly rated windows and doors to your home, taking special care in vulnerable locations.
- Keep tools and ladders locked away. Thieves might use them to break in.
- Use nature! Prickly shrubs are a great deterrent if you want to protect a vulnerable window or fence.
- Fit an approved alarm and make sure you use it.
- Consider security lighting. Many burglaries take place at night and thieves do not like the spotlight.
- Leave lights on when you are out in the evening. Consider using timers (or neighbours!) if you’re going away.
- Don’t tempt the thieves. Leaving a laptop in full view is an open invitation to break in.
- Keep doors and windows locked.
- The best systems are only effective when they’re engaged!
- Stay vigilant. If you see someone suspicious notify the police.
- Think about safety, including fire alarms and escape routes.
